The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy, representing marriage and family therapists in the United States, Canada, and abroad. The AAMFT facilitates research, theory development, and education. It also develops standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics, and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.

The Coalition for Marriage, Family and Couples Education (CMFCE), Smart Marriages, is dedicated to making marriage education more widely available to the public. The Coalition serves as an information exchange and clearinghouse to help couples, professionals, clergy, and lay educators to locate marriage and relationship education courses, training programs and resources that promote the effectiveness of marriage education courses.
In addition, CMFCE Smart Marriages supports community marriage education initiatives, legislation and research that will promote the effectiveness of marriage education courses and increase their availability in the community.
