'Assault' means any act which is a crime as defined in title 3, Civil Procedures, or title 4, Criminal Procedures, as applicable, of the Tribal Government of St. Paul Island Tribal Code when committed by one family or household member against another.

'Bodily injury' means physical pain, harm, illness, assault, or assault between family or household members (boyfriend, girlfriend, extended family) of the social unit made up of those living together in the same dwelling as the victim or perpetrator; or abuse, infliction of fear of imminent physical, mental, or emotional harm; or an impairment of physical condition.

'Domestic abuse' means a pattern of behavior used by one person in a relationship to gain power and control over another, usually an intimate partner. The pattern can include physical, sexual, emotional, and/or economic abuse.

  • Physical harm, bodily injury, assault, or the infliction of fear of imminent physical harm, bodily injury, or assault between family or household members
  • Sexual assault of one family or household member by another
  • Any act which is a crime as defined in title 3, Civil Procedures, or title 4, Criminal Procedures, as applicable, of the Tribal Government of St. Paul Island Tribal Code when committed by one family or household member against another
  • Violation of the provisions of a restraining order restricting that person's conduct or excluding that person from a residence or place of employment

The term 'family or household members' includes spouses, former spouses, romantic partners, former romantic partners, adult persons related by blood or marriage, persons who are presently residing together or who have resided together in the past, and persons who have a child in common, regardless of whether they have been married or have lived together at any time.
