In 2012, the Children’s Bureau awarded seven 5-year Family Connection grants to determine the effectiveness of kinship navigator programs in supporting caregivers' ability to meet the needs of the children they are raising and maintain permanency. Projects also identified effective collaborations between kinship programs, child welfare, and other public and private agencies, specifically the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. This synthesis includes information and lessons learned from grantees' experience implementing kinship navigator programs, including cross-cutting themes and promising practices.
