A comprehensive child welfare continuous quality improvement (CQI) system involves the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative information on how programs and practices affect children and families, including the impact of services on child and family outcomes. Agencies are subject to a variety of internal and external reviews, both voluntary and federally mandated, which examine individual cases, policies, practices, procedures, and aggregate data. Findings and recommendations are used to improve agency performance. The following resources provide descriptions of each type of review, as well as guidelines and examples of their operation.
