Linking Children and Families to Behavioral Health Resources

Child welfare professionals may refer children and families to a variety of community-based mental health or substance use treatment programs and services. More than one form of treatment may often be recommended for a child and family, especially when there is a history of individual and familial trauma. This section provides links to websites that can help families obtain local treatment services throughout the United States.

Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
Provides a search function for persons seeking local treatment facilities for mental and behavioral health issues in the United States. This resource also includes a 24-hour toll-free hotline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357), that confidentially provides information about treatment referrals.
