November is National Adoption Month. More than 100,000 children and youth in the U.S. foster care system are awaiting permanent families. National Adoption Month is a time to raise awareness about the adoption of children and youth from foster care.

The Children's Bureau, in partnership with AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information Gateway, sponsors the initiative each November as a way to focus public attention on the urgent need for adoptive families for siblings waiting in foster care for a permanent families. The focus of this year's initiative, "Promoting and Supporting Sibling Connections," highlights the importance of sibling bonds for children's development and emotional well-being. Information Gateway's website has adoption resources for a variety of audiences, including child welfare professionals, prospective and adoptive parents, youth and adopted people, and birth parents. The website contains resources, stories, and videos on topics such as ways to promote and support sibling connections, how to build a recruitment campaign, and how social media impacts child welfare and adoption.
