While immigrant and refugee families have many of the same needs as other families, they also face unique challenges as they navigate the child welfare system. Immigration issues in child welfare differ across jurisdictions depending on location and the concentration of resident immigrants and refugees, and there are certain policies and practices that agencies can implement to best serve these populations. This bulletin describes strategies that child welfare agencies can use at the systems level to improve case outcomes for immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families.
