Many concerned individuals have expressed the desire to volunteer for adoption agencies that are seeking temporary caregivers to cuddle and spend time with newborns waiting to be adopted. Although many agencies need and recruit volunteers to support their work and mission, not all adoption agencies offer interim care programs. It is also important to recognize that the majority of children waiting for adoption in foster care are not infants (see data from the most recent Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System Report, Median age of children waiting for adoption: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/cb/afcarsreport22.pdf).
Public and private foster care and adoption agencies may provide various volunteer opportunities. For more information about these programs, please direct your questions to the adoption agencies in your area.
