Child Welfare Technical Assistance Implementation Centers
In 2008, the Children's Bureau established five regional Implementation Centers to work with States and Tribes on both specific problems and broad child welfare performance issues. As part of the Children's Bureau's Training and Technical Assistance Network, the Implementation Centers fund projects in their geographic areas that focus on implementing strategies to achieve sustainable, systemic change for greater safety, permanency, and well-being for children, youth, and families.
The Implementation Centers' geographic service areas include the following Federal regions:
Northeast and Caribbean Child Welfare Implementation Center (NCIC)
Serves Regions I & II. The NCIC engages with State and Tribal child welfare agencies in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Houlton Band Maliseet Indians, Narragansett Indian Tribe, Penobscot Nation, and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).
Atlantic Coast Child Welfare Implementation Center (ACCWIC)
Serves Regions III & IV. The ACCWIC serves Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Federally recognized Tribes under this project include the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, Miccosukee Tribe of Indians in Florida, Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama, Seminole Tribe in Florida, and the Catawba Indian Nation in South Carolina.
Midwest Child Welfare Implementation Center (MCWIC)
Serves Regions V & VII. The MCWIC works with the States and Native American Tribes in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas.
Mountains and Plains Child Welfare Implementation Center
Serves Regions VI & VIII. This project serves Tribal and State child welfare agencies in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming.
Western and Pacific Child Welfare Implementation Center (WPIC)
Serves Regions IX & X. The WPIC serves States, Territories, and Tribes that include Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii; American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam; and Tribes that include title IV-B recipients.
