Real-Life Stories: Narratives
Real-life stories feature first-person perspectives from children, youth, families, and professionals with child welfare system experience. These narratives focus on this year’s National Foster Care Month theme, “Foster Care as a Support to Families, Not a Substitute for Parents,” and highlight the concept of supportive relationships as a key factor in achieving family stability, promoting individual success, and maintaining family connections. These narratives connect real-life scenarios to important practice issues and can be used as tools for training new child welfare professionals, recruiting and training foster parents, and enhancing State and local media and awareness campaigns for National Foster Care Month. Narratives from previous National Foster Care Months 2017, 2018, and 2019 are also available.
