"Building Bridges From One Family to Another: Parent, Kin, and Foster Family Perspectives"

The need for strong family relationships and parental support continues when a child enters foster care. Even when parents are unable to keep their children safe at home, they should remain actively involved in their children’s lives in safe and healthy ways. View this Children’s Bureau's National Foster Care Month event in which birth, kin, and resource family members shared their personal experiences working together to support family well-being, stability, and reunification and to ultimately develop a life-long connection. Children’s Bureau Associate Commissioner Jerry Milner led the panel discussion, which included the family members as well as a representative from the agency that supported their journey, Live Well San Diego.

The Children's Bureau, in partnership with the Child Welfare Capacity Building Collaborative and Child Welfare Information Gateway, offered this event to highlight how child welfare agencies and foster families can actively support families in achieving stable and lasting family reunification.
