Found Family Makes Life Complete
My name is Daniel, and I've lived in foster care my entire life. I had always believed there was no family interested in knowing me or loving me. When I aged out of foster care on my 18th birthday, I was completely on my own with no support system at all.
About 2 months after I turned 18, a caseworker asked me if I would be interested in searching for my birth family. Of course I said yes, and she started right away. Only a few hours later she called me, very excited, and told me that she had found my aunt. At first I did not believe her—I mean, how could that be true?
In a few minutes, phone calls came pouring in from my brother and sister. It was breathtaking to know that I had found my family!
The first time I talked to my brother, he asked if I would like to visit him on my break from college. My answer was a guaranteed "Yes!" The time I spent with him was the best 2 weeks of my life. My brother and I had so much in common, even though we had lived two completely different lives. When I thought it couldn't get any better, my sister came to visit. Now I know it can't get any better. If I had one wish, it would be to never lose my family again.
