Specific Issues Related to Types of Adoption
Different types of adoption give rise to unique ethical issues. Intercountry adoption may lead to ethical concerns about possible coercion of birth families and the buying or kidnapping of children. Adoptions by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) families and transracial/transcultural adoption are also discussed in terms of ethical issues in this section. Transracial and transcultural adoption practices are governed by Federal legislation, including the Multiethnic Placement Act, As Amended (MEPA) and the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA).
