Training

Training is critical to the development of a skilled child welfare workforce and to achieving outcomes of safety, permanency, and well-being for children entrusted to the care of the public child welfare system. It is also key to worker retention. Use the following resources to find curricula and related training materials for a variety of audiences, information on improving State and local training systems and evaluating curricula, and lists of national and State training organizations and schools of social work.

Training models and partnerships
Addresses the development and improvement of training systems and describes different types of models and partnerships for training the workforce.

Professional development
Considers the importance of professional growth and career development for the child welfare workforce.

Curricula, tools, and materials
Presents core and topical training materials for caseworkers, as well as resources for administrators, supervisors, resource families, families and youth involved with the child welfare system, and community partners. Also includes training resources in Spanish.

Toolkit for trainers
Offers tools, activities, and other tips for training professionals.

Assessment and evaluation
Provides resources for assessing child welfare training systems and workforce training needs, tools for evaluating curricula, and reports on evaluations of curricula.

Education and training organizations
Lists national and State training organizations and provides information on undergraduate and graduate social work programs.

 

Child Welfare Workforce Connection
A service of the Children's Bureau, Child Welfare Workforce Connection is an online forum for discussion, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas and resources related to pressing workforce and training issues.
