Services to Families at High Risk for Child Maltreatment
The services target children at risk for serious injury, severe neglect, and sexual abuse. The agencies involved are child protective services and law enforcement. Their primary concern is the safety of the child. Service strategies include intensive family preservation services, adoption, child removal, court-ordered services, foster care, and criminal prosecution.
Services to Families at Moderate Risk for Child Maltreatment
The services target child neglect, excessive or inappropriate discipline, and inadequate medical care. The agencies involved are child protective services and community partners. Their primary concern is how the family is functioning relative to child safety. Service strategies include appropriate formal services coordinated through family support, safety plans, and community support agencies.
Services to Families at Low Risk for Child Maltreatment
The services target high family stress, emotional and economic stress, and pre-incidence families. Community partners serve as the primary agency. Their primary concern is child and family well-being. Service strategies include early intervention, family support centers, formal and informal services, parent education, housing assistance, and community or neighborhood advocacy.
