Figure 1, titled Percent of Infants Relinquished for Adoption by Never-Married Women Under 45 Years shows a graph with three lines representing All women, Black women, and White women.

The line representing all never-married women under 45 shows a relinquishment rate of 8.7 percent before 1973, 4.1 percent from 1973-1981, 2 percent from 1982-1988, and 0.9 percent from 1989-1995.

The line representing Black never-married women under 45 shows a relinquishment rate of 1.5 percent before 1973, 0.2 percent from 1973-1981, 1.1 percent from 1982-1988, and near 0 from 1989-1995.

The line representing White never-married women under 45 shows a relinquishment rate of 19.3 percent before 1973, 7.5 percent from 1973-1981, 3.2 percent from 1982-1988, and 1.7 percent from 1989-1995.
