Postadoption Services
11. Conclusion Whatever the circumstances of their adoptions, adopted children need nurturing relationships with adoptive families who can help them manage feelings of loss and grief—and help them heal. They also need an ongoing mix of services and supports from community providers that are family centered, nonjudgmental, culturally sensitive, and "adoption-competent" (i.e., providers who understand and are able to address the long-term impact of trauma on adopted children). By providing postadoption services, professionals are able to support families and to maintain safety, permanency, and well-being for children.
