2009 Resource Guide Preorder Information

The following guidelines for preordering Strengthening Families and Communities: 2009 Resource Guide have been developed to ensure broad national dissemination through federally funded Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) grantees in each State, National Prevention Partners, and their affiliates/member agencies. Please read the following information regarding the preorder process, then click on "Continue" to proceed to the preorder webpage.

THE PREORDER PERIOD IS OVER.

What's New in This Year's Resource Guide?

  • The resource packet's name has been changed to Strengthening Families and Communities: 2009 Resource Guide, to coincide with the theme of the Children's Bureau's upcoming 17th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect--Focusing on the Future: Strengthening Communities and Families. It is intended for service providers and others who work to strengthen families and communities and prevent child abuse and neglect.
  • The guide includes new sections on five "levers" for effecting broad-based community change, evidence-based strategies to strengthen families, and tools to help build community awareness and support the development of community partnerships with specific groups. It also includes a sample press release, public service announcements, and a sample letter to legislators.
  • This year the resource guide has six tip sheets in English and Spanish that providers can share with parents and caregivers.

Quantity Limits

  • The minimum preorder request is 50 guides (1 box), and all preorder requests must be in multiples of 50.
  • The maximum number of guides available per preorder is 200.
  • Preorders can be placed from December 17, 2008 to January 20, 2009.
  • Once the preorder stock is depleted, ordering will be closed until the Prevention website is launched in March 2009. At that time, CBCAP grantees and National Prevention Partners may contact Child Welfare Information Gateway Customer Services to request bulk quantities. They can be reached via phone (1.800.394.3366) or email (info@childwelfare.gov). Availability of bulk quantities at that point is not guaranteed, and orders will be limited to 50 guides per organization.

Shipping Information

  • All preorders will be shipped via United Parcel Service (UPS) as soon as printing is completed. This is estimated to be in late February 2009.
  • UPS will not deliver packets unless someone is available to accept the boxes. In order to avoid delays in receiving your order, please ensure that someone is available during regular business hours to accept delivery. There will be no advance warning or call from UPS when your shipment is ready to be delivered.
  • UPS cannot deliver to Post Office (PO) boxes. No bulk orders are allowed to PO or military (APO/FPO) box addresses.
  • No international or military overseas preorders will be allowed. Information Gateway's Customer Services will begin taking international and military overseas requests when the website launches in March 2009 (www.childwelfare.gov/preventing).

Expectations of Preorder Participants

  • Because the 2009 Resource Guide is made available free of charge through funding from the Children's Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, they cannot be sold by any organization--this includes CBCAP grantees, National Prevention Partners, their affiliates, or other participating organizations.
  • Information Gateway requests that CBCAP grantees, National Prevention Partners, their affiliates, and other participating organizations provide free shipping for the packets to the extent possible.

Any questions about preorders for the 2009 Resource Guide should be directed to Customer Services at info@childwelfare.gov or 800.394.3366.
