Foster Parents

Foster parents are a key resource in out-of-home care practice. Child welfare agencies recruit, train, assess, and license foster parents to provide shelter and care for children who are removed from their homes.

Case managers provide support and services to foster parents to help them care for the children. Foster parents receive a monthly maintenance payment to help offset the costs of caring for the children. In family-centered out-of-home care practice, foster parents are treated as members of the team working to achieve permanency for children and support birth families in their efforts to reunite with their children.
