Building connections with youth
Antron
Foster care is often referred to as "the system." The triumph of youth who enter and leave that system is often a result of the individuals, organizations, and communities that set aside their time and energy year after year, assisting young people in need.
Growing up in the foster care system was no walk in the park for Antron, who struggled to find his identity and place in this world. But within his community, he found the resources and the skills to form an amazing support system and beat all the odds.
- In high school, he excelled in academics and sports.
- After aging out of the foster care system, Antron became active in the Independent Living Program.
- He serves as president of the Youth Advisory Council, and he has even rallied at our State's capital for the rights of foster children.
Now a student at Santa Fe College, Antron is majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Political Science. He obtained an internship with the National Nuclear Security Administration in Washington, DC, and worked for the supervisor in the Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation.
His worker, in describing Antron, quoted Harriet Tubman, who once said, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
