Nurse-Family Partnership: Taking Science to Practice Nationwide
Mini-Plenary IV
The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), an evidenced-based voluntary prevention
program, provides nurse home visitation services to low-income, first-time mothers
beginning early in pregnancy and continuing through the child's second year.
This session provides an overview of the research history and replication efforts
on the part of the Nurse-Family Partnership. Multi-site randomized controlled
trials over a 25-year period have proven statistically that NFP mothers and their
children fare significantly better than the control groups. Findings include a
48 percent reduction in child abuse and neglect. Presenters address questions
regarding the challenges and realities of taking science to the practice setting in
local communities.
