The Honorable Jeffrey B. Reed, a Judge with the Fourth Judicial Circuit, Wood and Wirt Counties of West Virginia, devotes much time and energy to making statewide improvements in child abuse and neglect court proceedings. He serves as the chair of the West Virginia Court Improvement Board, appointed by the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Under his leadership, the Court Improvement Board has provided countless hours of high quality cross-disciplinary training to lawyers, social workers, prosecutors, judges, and mental health professionals across the state. The Board also developed the Juvenile Abuse and Neglect Information System, which is an automated case information system for use by the Courts. Other initiatives on the part of Judge Reed include CASA training, judicial training, a court pilot project, the development of the West Virginia Judicial Benchbook for child abuse and neglect, and the creation of Court Rules for Child Abuse and Neglect Proceedings, which were adopted by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Additionally, Judge Reed serves as a member of the Wood County Commission on Crime, Delinquency and Corrections; a member of the Court Technology Committee of the West Virginia Judicial Association; and an Adjunct Professor at West Virginia University-Parkersburg in Business Law and Criminal Law.
