Dennis Stager, the Child Protective Services Supervisor for the Tioga County Human Services Agency for 21 years, is totally dedicated to the prevention of child maltreatment. Actively providing direct child protective care services for almost 29 years, he consistently resists moving out of direct service work when approached for promotion to management positions. Mr. Stager, known as the expert in Child Protective Services among Agency staff and throughout Tioga County, has assisted in a wide variety of child abuse investigations, including: abuse rings, cult activities, camp leader abuse, and a case involving the death of a child. Often, he serves as the first point of contact for police, the courts, school personnel, and clients. All trust his expertise as well as his ability to handle cases professionally and always in the best interest. of the families. Assuring children's safety is of primary importance to Mr. Stager. He teaches caseworkers how to complete accurate assessments to meet the needs of all child and adult family members and the perpetrators of abuse, the quality skills necessary to limit placement of children and to promote permanency, and the best practices for on-call situations. Appreciating the importance of involving the community in prevention activities, Mr. Stager serves as a trainer for Mandated Reporting for various organizations, and participates regularly in radio and newspaper campaigns and speaks publicly to civic organizations about child abuse and its prevention. He also serves as a member of the Tioga County Domestic Violence Task Force. Mr. Stager's work in Child Protective Services is much, much more than a job to him. It is a lifetime commitment to keeping children safe.
