Message from the Commissioner
| Child Welfare Information Gateway Children's Bureau/ACYF 1250 Maryland Avenue, SW Eighth Floor Washington, DC 20024 |
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 2003 Commissioner's Award Ceremony. The Commissioner's Award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the field of child protection.
The individuals featured in this publication have demonstrated a strong personal commitment to improving the well-being of children and families within their States and communities. All Commissioners' Award recipients serve as role models to those who work on a daily basis to eliminate child abuse and neglect.
The theme of this year's conference, "Gateways to Prevention," proclaims exactly what the Commissioner's award honorees are doing each day: challenging existing assumptions about how to prevent child maltreatment and opening their minds to the broad range of strategies available to protect children and support families and communities. They reaffirm our belief in the resilience of the American spirit and its power to bring renewed energy and commitment to securing the future of our nation's children and families.
It is important that we take this opportunity to recognize the contributions of these award recipients. Each honoree has been successful in demonstrating that individual efforts can make a significant difference in the life of a child when these efforts are coupled with determination, cooperation, and compassion.
On behalf of the Administration on Children, Youth and Families, I applaud the contributions of each honoree, and all those persons within their States and communities who have supported and contributed to their efforts.
