Laurie McKeown is Coordinator for TEAM (Together Eliminating Abuse and Maltreatment) for West Virginia Children, a non-profit social service agency based in Huntington. In addition to her administrative duties, she is also involved in working with the Family Resource Network, Families First of the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families, the West Virginia Court Improvement Oversight Board, the Citizen Review Panel of West Virginia, and she is the primary liaison for Prevent Child Abuse America in the State of West Virginia.
Ms. McKeown has been a pioneer in the development of many child protection initiatives in West Virginia. She was instrumental in directing the development of the first CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program in the State and in assisting other communities in developing CASA programs. She was also the first to develop a Health Families America initiative in West Virginia, which has expanded under her leadership.
Ms. McKeown has made countless public presentations and has tirelessly worked for improvements in legislation and in the child protection system. Her dedication and commitment to child advocacy serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and others working in the child protection system.
