Richard Calica has been the Executive Director of the Juvenile Protective Association of Chicago since 1978. Over the years, he has worked on numerous projects and committees related to child protection, family preservation, juvenile justice, and clinical social work. Mr. Calica is Chair of the Expert Panel on Best Practices for Child Welfare for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and he co-chairs the Child Endangerment Risk Assessment Advisory Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Citizens' Committee of the Juvenile Court of Cook County and serves on the Child Protection Advisory Work Group for the Cook County Circuit Court. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the DCFS Child Welfare Advisory Committee.
Mr. Calica is the immediate past President of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, and he has served as a member of the Child Welfare League of America' s Committee on Standards for Services to Abused and Neglected Children and their Families. He also served as Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on Family Preservation (1993-94), and President of the Child Care Association of Illinois (1991-93). In addition, he is a member of the Illinois Society for Clinical Social Work, Child Care Association of Illinois, Child Welfare League of America, American Humane Association, and the World Association for Infant Mental Health.
Richard Calica is a tireless advocate for children and families. Illinois children are safer as a result of his efforts.
